update, Ridgewood 2009

We are in the process of setting up a more permanent website for the neighborhood. The site will include history, photos, a calendar for events, and the continuation of this blog. Meanwhile here are examples of two homes in the neighborhood today.

I really like the fact that this house has that Mid-Century feel inside as well. The furniture draws the stone work out well.

Looking forward to more pics and posts. AtomicIndy (Atomicindy.blogspot.com) tweeted about the St.Louis article. I'm enjoying finding more and more MCM restoration folks.

I'm at www.midmodredo.com I added a link to your blog on my site.

Ok, I have to confess, I'm the driver of the little black Toyota Scion xB which makes an occasional tour through your neighborhood. I LOVE THOSE HOUSES!! I was 9 or 10 years old when they were built; my dad was a building contractor/developer and used to drive us kids around to see houses being built in the 50s and 60s all over St. Louis County. [He also took us to historic neighborhoods in the city.]

The Ridgewood houses were and still are the perfect American house, not too big, not too small, beautifully designed, flexible, adaptable interiors and exteriors, attractive materials, everything. They would be successful dwellings in any context: urban, suburban, rural. Ralph Fournier and Burton Duenke were geniuses. Keep up your preservation efforts, at least long enough for me to convince my husband we need to live there.

Lesley-thanks for the link and we are planning on more updates and hopefully a neighborhood website.

riverfever51-glad to hear you enjoy the neighborhood! You or your father wouldn't by chance have taken any photographs while touring the neighborhood? We would really like to get a hold of period photos, especially in color. Please let us know if you do.

Also, I think there are a few currently for sale...

Saw the item in the Post and had to check it out. I lived in 713 Fieldcrest for about 12 years. It was a cool house and I still encourage friends searching for their first home to check out the neighborhood. Very cool that a new generation found Ridgewood and loves it for the original concept. When I lived there, many of my neighbors were original owners who bought them as starter homes, but found the design so flexible that they raised kids and stayed on into their retirements. That's a real tribute to the architect's vision and I look forward to seeing the new website.

I just found out about this Subdivision and I have worked in walking distance of it for over 15 years. My Father worked at the same company for 39 years and didnt even know of it!! Needless to say, today I spent a good hour just slowly driving around to take it all in. I imagine it is a beautiful place live. I congratulate everyone that lived and lives there for taking such care and time into this preserving this historic neighborhood. I Envy you all! I am for sure coming back during winter once we have a good snow I bet its beautiful..

Heck I may come back again tomarrow!
